Leicester Animal Aid are seeking a foster carer for Violet, a 1-2 year old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier nin their care. Violet is seeking a foster carer as she is not coping at all well in the kennels. She has a natural separation anxiety which is materialising with inappropriate ‘grabbing’ behaviour. We understand that this environment is not conducive with her needs and are desperate to give her a chance in a home.

Violet is a very pretty and loving. She craves attention and loves to be massaged and her tummy tickled. She is looking for a foster home without any children or other pets and someone with experience of the Staffordshire Bull Terrier breed. Please contact the Leicester Animal Aid on 01455 888257 for more information.

Night-staff at The Mayhew Animal Home found an abandoned dog tied up outside the centre on Wednesday night –another in a spate of ‘dump and run’ occurrences for the Home. The female dog, now named Lulu, was tied to the lamppost by The Mayhew entrance on Trenmar Gardens in Kensal Green at some point after 9pm. Extremely thin with some scars and scratches she has additionally only recently given birth and is still full of puppy milk.

Still only a young dog at around five years old, Mayhew vets have identified she has already had several litters and speculate she may now have simply got past prime breeding age and has been abandoned as if past her sell by date.

Animal Welfare Officer, Zoe Hubbard, said: “It is astonishing to think that someone can just discard an animal so readily, with no knowledge of what may happen to her tied up alone on the street. This is clearly someone who has no concern for an animal’s welfare.”

However, this is not an isolated incident for the Home, as only over a month prior Night – staff found another emaciated and injured pup left cowering on the ground outside at 6am.

The 10 month old dog, renamed Hero, was in a terrible state with the majority of his teeth either filed down or knocked out, leading staff to believe he may have been used as bait in dog-fighting as he would have been unable to defend himself.

The Mayhew CEO, Caroline Yates, said: “These are just two of the most recent incidents of people just discarding their dogs like rubbish and we dearly wish it would stop. As well as animals outside the Home, our Animal Welfare Officers have answered calls for dogs tied to public lampposts with notes around their necks and others left to roam alongside busy roads.”

She added: “We would appeal for anyone who recognises the dog to come forward as we are concerned for the welfare of her puppies. Although we are glad her owners brought her to the Home rather than turn her out into the street, we would prefer they approached us for advice and help rather than as a drop off point for discarded dogs.”

The staff at Dogs Trust Bridgend are delighted to announce that one of their many special residents, Weasel, has found the perfect family to love him. This beautiful Terrier- who was born with no ears- arrived at Dogs Trust having been handed in to a local police station when he was a tiny pup. Weasel is now happily at home with his new family in Mold, Clwyd, North Wales.

Brave Weasel has undergone a series of veterinary checks over the last few months and finally had a procedure to open up his ears. He can now hear as well as any other dog which will greatly improve his quality of life..

Beverley Price, Rehoming Centre Manager commented:

“Despite his former disability and recent surgery, Weasel is a fantastic dog. He is happy, friendly and really healthy in every other way. We’re so happy that we found the perfect family to love him forever although Dogs Trust will miss him lots!”

Dogs Trust is the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, and cares for over 15,000 dogs every year through a network of 17 rehoming centres. Dogs Trust never destroys a healthy dog in its care.

If you would like to find out more about Weasel or rehoming a rescue dog, please call Bridgend Rehoming Centre on 01656 725 219. To find out more about the work of Dogs Trust please visit www.dogstrust.org.uk

It has been reported that animal welfare charities including the RSPCA are dealing with increasing numbers of animal abandonments. In a statement released by the Self Help Group for animal owners experienced trouble with the RSPCA, it is alleged that this increase is a direct result of the newly introduced Animal Welfare Bill.

Statement

As the RSPCA flexes its muscles with the introduction of the Animal Welfare Act 2006, The Self Help Group for Farmers, Pet Owners and Others experiencing difficulties with the RSPCA (The SHG) asks what the AWA has actually achieved.

The RSPCA are claiming a massive increase in the numbers of animals handed in and abandoned.

As predicted in paragraph three of the Memorandum submitted by the SHG to the Select Committee on Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

“The result of this legislation will be to reduce the number of people prepared to keep animals of any kind because they have privacy concerns and because they are not prepared to put themselves at risk of attracting the attention of the RSPCA whose unlawful activities are well documented, and who are feared by many animal keepers”

According to Anne Kasica of the SHG “Even if we take out the huge numbers of people who have been terrified into giving up Staffordshire bull terriers and Staffordshire Bull Terrier crosses who were loving family pets as a result of yet another RSPCA campaign on dangerous dogs, the RSPCA are still admitting that our predictions are correct.”
